Preperation

Enjoying a semester abroad needs a lot of preparation. Therefore I made a little to do list. I will keep this list up to date to visualise my progress.

  • ✓ Visa for Thailand and countries I want to visit (like China, Singapore, Malaysia)
    • Is it possible to get a visa without knowing the exact time and destination?
      • It seems to be not possible. But it is fine to do get a visum for the other countries  directly in Thailand.
    • Get visa for
      • Thailand (I need the acceptance letter from the university to get a visa)
  • Injections:
    • What do I need?
    • Inject: Typhus, japanese encephalitis, rabies
      • Typhus vaccine was not available. I got an oral vaccination.
  • Insurance
    • ✓ Health insurance (Hanse Merkur)
    • ✓ Indemnity insurance
      • My current insurance sufficient
  • ✓ Flight
    • Information about a possible one day stop in Dubai
      • I got a two day stop on my way back to germany. I don't need a visum for that.
    • Is it possible to book a flight without a return (possible visa conflict)
      • I got a return flight, including the option to offset the date and the point of depature to be flexible. This eliminates the potential visa conflict.
    • Book the flight.
  • Hotel (Book a Hotel until I find an appartement)
    • We found something for the first days
  • ✓ Get a credit card
  • ✓Pause the mobile-contract
  • Pause or cancel membership in the tennis club
  • Things I need to buy:
    • Adapter
    • Backpack
    • Sun glasses (I completed the eye examination)
    • Padlock (you never know)

Introduction

I am planning my semester abroad. I chose Phuket (Thailand) and the time between January and June of 2014 for my trip. Some classmates are planning the same trip. We want to help us during the whole planning process. The general plan  is to take the flight to Thailand in January and stop in Dubai for one or two days, if it is possible. Most of the flights stop in Dubai anyway, so why shouldn't I take this opportunity and explore this place. Once I reached Phuket I will join the Prince of Songkla University. Hopefully I still get some spare time beside studying. Thailand has an excellent geographical position, which open the doors for some trips to China, Singapore or Malaysia.
It is possible to contact Asia Exchange to get a place at one of many different universities. So did I and applied successfully to the university on Phuket.
I will keep you informed about my planning and the trip on this blog.
